What happened to church?
There was a time when church was a constant in our society. But now church seems to change right along with the trends that drive pop culture. Church shouldn’t be trendy. Church should be timeless. It should be a place where the focus is on an eternal, unchanging Savior who has a wonderful plan for our lives.
“Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.” -Hebrews 13:8 (KJV)
Attracting and keeping a crowd has become the motivation in designing church programs and service schedules. Entertainment, technology, and special effects have become the focus. Church gatherings bear more resemblance to concerts than the “house of prayer” Jesus Christ so emphatically demanded.
Church should be reverential AND exciting. It should be filled with beautiful music that draws people to Christ. The preaching should be powerful and relevant. Church shouldn’t just be a place you attend. It should be a place you belong. Where people from all walks of life come together to form a family united by a passionate pursuit to become more like Christ.
